I was doing some light reading, every active clan forum available in English. And I came across this on the Death Harbinger forum,
Suicidaire wrote ... ... does anyone know if the rumor that all of the guilds that are recognized by the TR team will get a slot is true?
Canterous wrote ... That rumor is true...
As far as I'm aware, this isn't true, and would make 90% of the beta competition thus far pointless. Anyone wanting a beta slot can simply sign up with or make a clan and possibly receive according to DH in the region of 20 slots?
Does anyone have any additional information about this? Is it fact or fiction?
Also, after reading more than 5 news postings on major sites and many more references in one way or another naming Deaths Harbinger as Tabula Rasa's first clan, I did a little research and confirmed HTTP (Humans Towards Three Principles) was the first officially opened clan back in July 04. My own Information Guild was the fourth officially opened clan in early December 04.
Being the only opened clan with a member consistently active in the community since 04, I could claim to have the oldest-longest running Clan, but that would be about as stupid as opening a TR clan 2 years plus after everyone else and calling it Tabula Rasa's first clan.
Usally history is written by the victor, in which case Rank and File would be the only clan who've consistently won out over all others over the years and deserve to place their mark on that history. For providing the highest level of activity inside the TR community by any clan, gaining a larger dedicated following, having the widest activity base in the TR community (ogaming, stratics, justagamer, mmorpg and planettr, oh and rafs own forum) and providing a high level of consistency in the quality of what they produce.
What I keep having to read in regards to this is antagonizing and unfair to a lot of earlier groups, and its not the truth. Lets face it, if there were more early clans still around, there'd be a much larger stink made about this issue, but there arn't and that just serves to make the RAF more of a deserving effort, succeeding when most others gave up or failed.

First of all i think such slot system would be not really fair. There are a lot clans listed in TR site (i dunno how you get listed since we wanted list our clan as well) but as far as i have seen this site and TRplanet are the only ones that i can see actively supporting the game and providing a lot of info and helpful feedback and a healthy community regarding the game.
I think that such beta slot giveaway wont happen.

TG, if you need your clan listed PM CuppaJo on either PTR or JAG, I'm sure she'd be more than happy to take your details and get you posted.
I agree, I don't see it happening. But then again a lot of the things I invisioned happening didn't, and a lot of suprising things did. So... an official word would be nice.
Been doing some more reading, low and behold, I run straight into this,
qj.net wrote ... It is on this note that Community Manager CuppaJo is very pleased to announce that when it comes to Tabula Rasa, the clans slate, well, isn't so clean anymore. The very first TR clan - known as Death's Harbingers - is already hunting for recruits on their official site. The two main leaders are gamers Orcane and Canterous.
It seems things for Tabula Rasa are indeed shaping up. So before everything becomes crazy and really massive, why not join that clan now or might as well start a new one?
The report starts off by telling his readers that the term Clan comes from the term Guild, and the term Guild can be traced back to Neverwinter Nights, the first graphical MMORPG. Okay back it up, NWNs a MMOG? No. It barely had player created persistent worlds with server limits of up to around 32 players, if that. NWNs is now the first graphical MMORPG? Erm, no. Hello the guy who's Designing the game you're writing about, HELLO? Who is he? The father of the modern MMORPG. What about Islands of Kesmai? Wait wait.. Guilds have only been around as long as Neverwinter Nights? *cries* It's not like you need a vocational qualification to write about games, common sense and 5 minutes of research will suffice.

QFT, this is definitely major truth!
Well although i might miscomprehend some things due to my Greekness i believe that clans already forming and formed are the smaller communities that set foundation to shape the TR community later on as a whole.I dont think there is reason to start claimings of who is first etc etc and we need to remember is Humanity vs Bane and not Humanity vs Humanity
Thanks for the info btw will try contact Cuppa

Hand out a beta slot to everyone in creation... won't bother me.... Let anyone who wants to playtest, test, play, break.. whatever.
I care about the willy-nilly effort's PlayNC/DG use in "forming" a community. I know that being a Dev is a hard job... bugdets, fighting the calendar, loss of sanity, sleep deprevation, living a life, and so much more....
But, Bungie and Bioware have put a ton of time and energy into making their communities happy. They post on forums, leave hints about their project's, console upset gamers, and are a active force in keeping their fan's around.
Even SWG's Devs can't stop themselves from descending from on high to post there idiotic rants, and ban player's.
With DG and PlayNC, seems like the community is on autopilot... waiting for someone to come along and get things started... Well, my safety belt is buckled and i've been ready to go for years....
The more we learn... the less we know.
- - - - - Look, what a mess we've made.

I guess you're right DS, I think I got the notion that having put forward an effort at the final hurdle and years of dedicated time ontop, that gave me some sort of personal monopoly over deserving beta. Pretty stupid eh? But it easy to get carried away. A lot of people are in beta because they showed up at the right time, be them friends, winners or even family, when the prime criteria for every good beta tester is a desire to take part.
I like that outlook TG, yes many of the current Clans, especially those tied in with fansites, will be a defining force in shaping the TR community in the future.
And I agree again, there was never an issue with who was first till it was claimed. Infact the whole issue surrounding DH seems motivated, there was never a reason to call them first (even without taking the rest of mainstream community into consideration which was idiotic(sry) not to do), and there was never a reason for many reported news postings to suggest joining them, or to claim the things they have done. It smells horribly of favorism or a favor and thats the sort of action that will eventually bring out Humanities self destructive instincts, not free opinions or the desire to have things done right.

I find it pretty funny that Death's Harbingers claim to be the first...and yet, I haven't noticed a whole lot of excitment or general interest on the part of any TR community for the "[i]First Tabula Rasa Clan" anyway. Furthermore, while scoping out the forum thread on the DH's site that mentioned the "clan beta slots" rumor, I realised that DH must think they can operate in a complete void; They're not connected to any site other than the offical TR site, their leader/admin/? Canterous wasn't even aware of either PlantTR or Stratic's Beta competitions, and they have little/no activity outside of the few members they already have.
Quite frankly, the only reason that DH can truly claim to be TR's first clan is that fact that they were likely the first to manage e-mailing Cuppa their clan site information to be posted on the Tabula Rasa Clansites page.
Ultimately, it will be a bit of a toss-up to see which pre-launch clans actually make it out of Beta and into the fully-launched game, through right now I can say it will likely be the big three that I've seen: Rank n' File, Warriors of Destiny, and Invictus. RaF has a pretty strong community on it's own, WoD can pretty much bank off the rather high member count of Stratics website, and Invictus is the offical clan of the PlantTR community. All three are pushing around 20 or more regularly active members with a number of beta slots having gone to each, or at least that I can tell.
But all that aside, I highly doubt the validity of DH's claims based on both the relative quality of information on the rest of their site and the depth of the knowledge most of it's member's have. It's entirely possible there is an element to DH that is unknown to non-members, but it's doubtful.

Yep, basically DH adsensed their site and thought we can make a buck with publicity. And the management of the community went with that, the "I don't have a clue what this game is, but I have a website" mentality, and it snowballs into, semi-professional reporters from major non-affiliated gaming websites acting like the community for TR is DH and its just burst out of nowhere.
I don't even think DH have actually claimed half the stuff that reporters have claimed on their behalf.
