Its really just a challenge, to actually EXPECT to get to the end would well, almost leave everyone in dissapointment.

And seriously if I did start a squad like that, I'd make sure that no one carried on the "elitist" attitude. Its just not fun like that for me. I would just leave it to us, and the tension is the fun part, the adreniline rush of actual death of your character.

The shadows always consume the weak!

To compare, kids and amature sports teams do exactly the same thing, instead of just playing the game they get all serious. But in gaming thats seen as no longer playing and therefore no longer attaining fun. I can't but disagree. Its these hardcore feelings in many good gamers that have given me years of fun, and especially years of fun after the games rightly should've died out, I played TIE Fighter released in '95 for 10 years competitively with a group of thousands of gamers with some rotten eggs, but prodominently a good batch. All it did was make it more of a game, more of a community and now 10 years on the community is releasing its own StarWars space sims, as well as having an archive of over 10 thousand missions over various platforms. Hardcore attitude is powerful, but its the individuals that abuse it, and just like everything else its a vocal minority that ruins the fun for the rest of us, I don't think that a large overly dedicated group should suffer just so that some people can hit back against egotistical gamers, who will always find a way to exist anywhere. Especially when a congregation of overly dedicated gamers is a breeding ground for such powerful community successes.

John Bourne is ... available in a limited capacity.

the definition of maddness is doing the same thing over and over again... and expecting to get different results.

How about instead of the characters being dead forever, if they die --in a teamwipe-- they will respawn after 7 days? So there is no sense of finality but you feel the sting of defeat for 7 days?

Heh, that's kinda what I meant, mate.

If you continually die off, restart with new characters only to inevitably die off again....seems pretty similar to me.
